TRIBALLY-OWNED
CHILD PLACEMENT AGENCY

On February 22, 2023 Wil la mootk Counseling Center became the first tribally owned and operated Child Placement Agency in the State of Alaska. As a Child Placement Agency we recruit, license, and train Therapeutic level foster parents. Under the direction of a master’s level clinician, we work with our foster parents to provide therapeutic foster care services

Therapeutic foster parents are licensed, contracted and trained in best practice approaches to lead to more successful outcomes for youth receiving this care. This service is a higher level of care than traditional foster care because the foster parents provide individualized daily behavioral health interventions to the children in their care as well as providing support, safety, and security. With the guidance of a clinician, the Therapeutic Foster Parents create an intentionally trauma informed, nurturing environment to help youth overcome adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and experience healing.

In conjunction with Therapeutic Foster Care services, Wil La Mootk Counseling Center provides wrap around outpatient services to build a network of strong support to help youth who need out of home placements. By providing this level of support in a more natural environment, children are able to remain in their home communities, stay connected to family and culture, and still received needed behavioral health services. Therapeutic Foster Care is rewarding for the children as well as the providers who contribute to the community wellness each day by supporting the youth.

Child Placement Agency

Wil La Mootk provides the following continuum of care for Therapeutic Foster Care: Outpatient, home-based, therapeutic foster care resources, residential and acute care.

Wil La Mootk also offers 25 hours per parent annually of Foster Parent Training. Topics are outlined in the Wil La Mootk Foster Care Training Checklist Form. This training focuses on trauma informed practices necessary to meet the needs of the youth. Wil La Mootk can also provide therapeutic interventions to assist youth to develop resilience skills necessary to maintain safety, health and well-being in all social domains.
